If you explored our Kipware® Conversational CNC Programming software applications ... you may have missed some of the "hidden" advantages which come from the "real world" design of the applications. I would like to take a few posts in our BLOG to highlight some of these "hidden" tricks.

Kipware® Hidden Advantage #1 :

The design of Kipware® conversational allows the user to create "pieces" of the complete machining operation ... in any order. Let's say you are machining a part on a VMC or HMC ... you need to FACE then ROUGH A ROUND POCKET then DRILL A BOLT CIRCLE. In KipwareM®, you create each "piece" of this complete process using the fill-in-the-blank "conversational" forms for each operation ... in any order. So first you could create the program for the bolt circle ... then the facing operation ... then the round pocket. Each "sub-program" gets saved to disk at the time it was created ... and added to the TREE. Later, the user utilizes the MAIN PROGRAM feature and link tools and spindle related info to one or more of these sub-programs. The way these operations are defined in this MAIN PROGRAM option is what creates the final program and the final machining process.

BUT ... each one of these "pieces" ... these sub-programs ... are saved to disk. This means that they are available for future programs. Let's say a month from now you have a part that requires the same pocket and bolt circle machining. You can simply click the file and ADD that "piece" or sub-program to the TREE. NO NEED TO RE-PROGRAM OR RE-CREATE THEM, YOU CAN LINK THE EXISTING G CODE TO NEW TOOLS AND NEW SPINDLE CALLS IN THE MAIN PROGRAM OPTION.

THE ADVANTAGE : Kipware® conversational is automatically creating re-usable G code programs that can dramatically save you time and energy on your future G code creation. The Ultimate Solution

Recently, one of our customers was given a complex aerospace component to manufacture, along with a set of ten "proven" G-code programs written for a Mazak 4-axis machine. Having these proven programs could prove to be a great advantage, saving the customer many hours and dollars of programming fees. However, the problem was that this customer did not own a Mazak machine, but rather had a Mori-Seiki 4-axis with a Fanuc controller.

We received the panicked phone call regarding this very hot job, requesting if there was anything we could do to help out! This type of project is not one normally taken on by True Precision. Typically, we program parts from scratch ourselves. After searching the web, and making phone calls to many of our contacts, we found Kipware XC software by Kentech. Search and Replace is Sooooo Yesterday

The number of reasons why G code programs are edited are as numerous as the number of machine shops. Some shops accomplish this with the crude, non-CNC tools of a text editor or by making the changes manually … and experience limited and often costly success in time, money and sometimes repairs. If your shop requires G code editing because of any of the reasons below, you owe it to the broken tools who have made the ultimate sacrifice to take a closer look at the G code conversion software from Kentech Inc.

How does G code conversion software work?

All the conversion factors are pre-written in the source code and the software is completely automated. These packages are created for specific applications. Our most popular versions convert Fanuc G code to Okuma OSP code … and reverse. These are available for either turning or milling.
KipwareXC® is a completely user configurable package. The user creates a “ Profile” and uses a mix of pre-defined conversion options ( i.e. convert R to I,J … convert X radius values to diameter values, etc. ) and user created “macros” to basically tell the software what-to-convert into what. Using KipwareXC® the user can create an unlimited number of Profiles and within each Profile an unlimited number of user defined macros … which give the software a great deal of flexibility and power. Users can even utilize two different Profiles in the same file conversion operation … all automatically.

Kentech Inc. is pleased to announce the release of our newest version of Kipware® CNC XChange - G code conversion software. AF CNC XChange can automatically convert G code milling programs for Acramatic SX850 controls into either Fanuc or Haas compatible code.

Some of the AF CNC XChange features include :

Complete tool change conversions including all code conversion as well as the auto addition of G43 and H commands.
Separation of commands on a single line whose format is not compatible with Fanuc / Haas.
Auto separation of Z command moves
Auto conversion of all drilling cycles ... including R and W commands utilized in the Acramatic format.

The NY Mets defeat the Boston Red Sox in 7 games in the World Series... The Iran - Contra affair. ... Kentech Inc. is incorporated in Massachusetts.

Has it really been 25 years? In April of 1986, Kentech Inc. was incorporated in Massachusetts. Originally providing CNC machine repair services ... we quickly branched out to provide not only repair but application services such as contract programming and CNC programming and operation training. Being contracted by many machine tool builders and dealers throughout the Northeast U.S., we were in the shop every day, touching and learning all the newest technologies.

Being "in the trenches" also gave us the ability to clearly see all the "real world" tools that were missing. Tools like fast, easy, efficient shop floor programming software and real world cycletime and job costing software to take the guesstimating out of quoting and estimating. We realized that these were not unique to our customers, but were a much needed commodity throughout the metalworking world.

Kentech Inc. has begun to use Cisco Webex for live demonstrations of their software products. Webex combines real-time desktop sharing and phone conferencing so everyone sees the same thing on their own computer screens. It is far more productive and informative than emailing files or demos as it allows the customer to ask real-time questions and get real-time answers. Control of meeting is able to be passed to customer to control remote desktop so customers have a chance to work with software products and experience how they “feel”.

WebEx is a web-based service that works on any computer or Wi-Fi or 3G-enabled mobile device, including iPhone, iPad, and BlackBerry. There’s no complicated installation and no sign up needed to attend the meeting. Meetings can include 1-25 customers. Kentech to Create Dynapath to Heidenhain Version of CNC XChange

Kentech Inc. has been contracted by ZPS-CNC USA to develop a new version of our Kipware® CNC XChange G-code conversion software. ZPS-CNC USA (http://www.zpsusa.com ) is a wholly owned subsidiary of TAJMAC-ZPS, a fully integrated and developed multinational machine tool company. Within the Czech Republic, TAJMAC-ZPS has a long lasting tradition of machine tool design, prototyping, production and maintenance. TAJMAC-ZPS manufactures machining centers, CNC lathes and multi-spindle automatic lathes. They are one of the major Czech exporters and rank high among the world’s top machine tool manufacturers.

Development of this new version has already begun with a scheduled BETA release scheduled for mid-March 2011. This new milling version of Kipware® CNC XChange will auto convert Dynapath Model 20 conversational G-code programs to Heidenhain TNC530 conversational code. New KipwareEDM® Features

Kentech Inc. is pleased to announce the new TAPERING feature to our KipwareEDM® conversational programming software for wire EDM.

Now each conversational programming feature option contains the tapering field options as shown in the pic below ... once completed KipwareEDM® will auto-insert the correct taper commands into the generated G code program where appropriate ... and the correct cancel command also where appropriate in the code.

Tapering is also available in any program created through the SketchPad as well.

KipwareCYC® Upgrades Complete

Kentech Inc. has released new features to our KipwareCYC® - Machining CycleTime Estimating Software. Customers have been providing us feedback and have expressed their "wish list" ... and we have done our best to incorporate their ideas and "wants" into the new version ... 3.1.0.

New features include :

The addition of EDM and Waterjet machinery format into the Machine Database and provisions for this type of cutting parameters into the Material Database.
The addition of a GENERAL category format into the Machine Database and provisions for (2) User Defined Options for cutting parameters. One based on IPR and Per Tooth feed and One based on Per Minute feed.
The ability to more easily estimate cycletimes using turning centers with Live Tooling.
The ability to include SAWING, whether with a manual or automatic saw, in cycletime estimates.
The Database Manager now contains an extensive area for SAWING parameters including settings for :
- # of teeth on the blade
- blade speed
- chip load
The user can input (5) different parameter sets per the above each for :
- round stock
- square / rectangular stock
- tubing / pipe / structural stock.
The KipwareCYC® cycletime module contains new inputs to accomodate estimating sawing times ... user inputs include length of each piece and stock diameter or width.
The Route Sheet format in the KipwareCYC® cycletime module has been upgraded and enhanced.

KipwarePA® ... our latest software release to assist with G code creation ... was released in April and has met with good reviews from users who have told us that it greatly enhances their G code programming.

Customers seem to especially like the way in which we have integrated it into the Kipware® conversational packages. We have updated all the Kipware® conversationals to include a button on the main page to launch KipwarePA® ... which adds another level of programming capabilities and has proven to be a nice compliment to conversational programming creation.

New Titles to be Released

I am pleased to outline some of our new releases in this post for my blog. These new titles are in final testing and should be released during the summer '09 months.

We are very excited to be adding these two new titles which were developed to help add even more "real world" options to your shop floor and your personnel. Please return to the blog and to www.KentechInc.com in the near future for additional release information.

(1) NEW KipwareT® Y Axis Version

We are expanding the current C axis ( indexing type ) live tool option of our KipwareT® by adding Y AXIS PROGRAMMING OPTIONS to the software. These new Y axis options will include milling capabilities utilizing the Y axis on both the OD and the FACE. Below is a screenshot of the new KipwareT® front page and those newly available Y axis options.

KipwareT® Y Axis Option is scheduled for release in late summer '09.

(2) NEW KipwarePA® ( Kipware Programming Assistant ) Title Release

We have developed a new programming package for both milling and turning titled KipwarePA®. KipwarePA® is designed to be a point-and-click program creation package where the user uses a mixture of item selection and inputs to tell the software what lines of G code to create. The user can make selections for the type of move or operation ( drill, turning canned cycle, etc. ) using menu options ... then enters the coordinates or definitions ... and KipwarePA® will automatically create the correct line of code.

KipwarePA® is a fast and easy program creation package for both the novice as well as the experienced G code programmer. With KipwarePA®'s auto functions, the user need not be proficient in G code programming as the software prompts and auto-completes operations then automatically creates the correct G code line of code. For the experienced programmer, KipwarePA® is much fast than typing and eliminates errors through it's auto-creation capabilities. Another feature is that users can customize the one-button inputs. For example, the user could create a button and label it anything, for example, PARTS CATCHER UP, and when that button is pressed, the user defined code is automatically inserted into the program being created.

In addition to code creation, users can view the toolpath at any point while the program is being created by using the plotting feature.Once all the inputs are created, the program is then displayed in our Kipware® Text Editor for review and final plotting.

Below is an initial screenshot illustrating the basic design for KipwarePA® ... this is initial view and the final release, though incorporating some of the features shown, will have many more enhancements and options.

KipwarePA® is scheduled for release in late summer '09.

Fanuc Macro <--> Okuma User Task Conversion Software

Kentech Inc. is pleased to announce the release of a new option to our CNC XChange -- Fanuc / Okuma G code conversion software.

The MU option ( Fanuc Macro <--> User Task ) is available for both the Milling and Turning versions and will auto-convert Fanuc Macro B code to Okuma User Task and REVERSE. Some of the options of this version :

Auto-Convert # sign to VC and reverse
Auto-Convert G65 lines and variable calls on that line to compatible CALL lines and reverse
Converts Common Variables between formats.
Converts System Variables between formats
All Control Commands such as WHILE / DO loops, IF statements, Conditional Expressions such as EQ, GT, etc., and Branch commands

We are pleased to announce some great UPGRADES to our KipwareQTE® and KipwareCYC® estimating packages. We have recently added new PRINTING and USER DEFINED SETTINGS options to both packages. Some details :

KipwareQTE® :

New printing options give users the ability to further customize the outputs available within the software such as Length & Width of the printer output ... customize the output from an 8 1/2 x 11 to whatever size output desired. This feature is available for both QUOTE FORMS and INVOICES.
Users can now select the desired PRINTER for output from their available system printers ... output is no longer forced to the default system printer.
NOTES that appear at the bottom of the QUOTE FORM ... such as "Quotation valid for 30 days" ... can now be customized by the user. (4) NOTES are available as output and can be designed and crafted by the user.

KipwareCYC® :

Users can now select the desired PRINTER for output from their available system printers ... output is no longer forced to the default system printer.
Enhanced functionality in the VIEW OPERATIONS area have been added. The VIEW OPERATIONS area allows users to re-order and delete machining sequences.

Customers continue to tell us that our video training series that are shipped standard with most of our machine shop software titles are a great tool for assisting them in getting the most out of their software purchase. The videos not only teach them how to use the software ... but are a great reference tool that they can refer back to again and again for questions that arise along the way.

Now that KipwareQTE® and KipwareCYC® have been upgraded and enhanced ... we are in the process of also upgrading the video training series for these titles. KipwareQTE® & KipwareCYC® Upgraded

Kentech Inc. is pleased to announce the overhaul and upgrade to it's popular quoting & estimating software packages including the following changes and enhancements :

KipwareQTE® has been revised into a cost estimating only software from the previous cycletime estimating and cost estimating package. The machining cycletime estimating features have been removed and a new machining cycletime estimating package titled KipwareCYC® has been created. KipwareQTE® retains the features of cost estimating, quotation generation, assembly estimating & quoting and cost analysis. The list price of this new KipwareQTE® has been reduced from the previous $795 (U.S.) for both cycletime and costing to $365 (U.S.) for the costing only version. The list price for KipwareCYC® is $395 (U.S.).
The machining cycletime features now in KipwareCYC® have been greatly upgraded and enhanced from the cycletime estimating features in the previous KipwareQTE® version. One major upgrade is to the cutting condition database. Users now have the ability to add up to (5) sub-operations to each main operation. For example, under Rough Turning, the user can include up to (5) sets of cutting parameters. This gives the user much more flexibility with the opportunity to include cutting parameters for say carbide tooling, HSS tooling, aggressive material removal, conservative material removal or whatever. In addition, we have added (3) User Defined Main Operations in addition to the pre-defined main operations ... and each of these User Defined Operations can have the up to (5) sets of sub-operations as well.
Our Kipware® Suite package has been revised to include (2) versions ... the Standard Edition and the Professional Edition. The Standard Edition bundles KipwareQTE® and KipwareCYC® together with a list price is $710 (U.S.) The Professional Edition bundles KipwareQTE®, KipwareCYC®, KipwarePLN® ( shop scheduling ) and KipwareTRK® ( quotation tracking ) together with a list price of $995 (U.S.).
For users who upgrade from previous versions of KipwareQTE®, we have included a small utility program that will revise your current Material Database ( cutting condition ) file into a format compatible with the new version and format.

These new features and upgrades greatly enhance the features of the business software created by Kentech Inc. and demonstrate our continued commitment to create the best, Real World manufacturing software in the industry.

New Fanuc Custom Macro Training Software

Kentech Inc. is pleased to announce the release of our newest title to our KipwareEDU® training series ... KipwareEDU® Macro Version. KipwareEDU® Macro uses a mix of in-depth TEXT explanations and VIDEO TUTORIALS with voice to teach the Fanuc Custom Macro B programming language.

The (9) Video Tutorials that are included with KipwareEDU® Macro show a split screen with an illustration of the workpiece being programmed on the left and the step-by-step creation of the custom macro program on the right. The voice overlay gives all the in-depth details of the how's and why's of the macro being programmed. Since their release, customers have told us that our new KipwareM® and KipwareT® PC based training video series have been a tremendous help in getting them up and running with their software in short order. In addition, the tips and tricks contained in the series have given existing customers new ideas on how to best utilize the Kipware® conversational approach to CNC programming.

In our continuing efforts to improve and assist our customers with getting the most out of their software, we have released a new PC based video training series for KipwareQTE®. These videos illustrate the use of all aspects of the software for the Database Manager and CycleTime Estimating as well as Cost Estimating modules. The use of each of these modules of KipwareQTE® is illustrated in detail with sample CycleTime and Cost estimates being prepared in the videos.

KipwareM® & KipwareT® Upgrades

New UPGRADES for KipwareM® and KipwareT® were released at the beginning of February ... the cost for each is $95. Detailed upgrade information and ordering can be accessed using the UPGRADES link at the main site ... www.KentechInc.com ... but here are a few items that have changed.

In both KipwareM® and KipwareT®, we have added a whole range of new 3D graphics to the menu screens for better understanding of the meanings of the input fields.

In KipwareM®, we added some new features for both the RADIAL and LINEAR SLOTTING menus that now allow for the ramping down of the cutter as the slot is being machined, with (1) additional final pass at final depth at the end.

In KipwareT®, we added new conversational screens that gives users the ability to cut ANGLES and RADII from a fill-in-the-blank menu. The code that is output is in long hand G code ... not a canned cycle ... that makes this more compatible with the less-intense hobby type CNC controls that do not have canned cycle capabilities. Of course, the shape can still be drawn in the SketchPad to obtain the canned cycle output if desired.

Coming Soon ...
A new version of the Kipware® Trainer Videos . We are upgrading the slide shows used in the our Kipware® Trainer using Camtasia software to give us a more rich and powerful media to create training videos for all the Kipware® software. Soon we will have complete videos that show how to program a variety of workpieces from the simple to the complex in KipwareM® and KipwareT®. These videos will contain complete screen capture along with voice overlay with detailed explanations of the processes being shown.

Kentech Inc. recently released our newest software title ... KipwareEDU® - CNC Programming Training & Reference Software.

KipwareEDU® is an upgrade to our past software title called Protalk and has taken our training to the next level. KipwareEDU® teaches all aspects of CNC programming ... from the simple to the complex ... using in-depth TEXT explanations as well as 3D ANIMATIONS with VOICE. The new interface is extremely easy to use and organizes the tons of information contained in KipwareEDU® in a clear and concise package. All the "stuff" is easy to find, easy to access and easy to understand.

KipwareEDU® was designed and is priced for all ... individuals, corporations, instructors, technical schools, vocational schools and just about everyone and everywhere where metalworking is learnt or taught.
